The biggest changes often have the quietest announcements.
After three gigs and an album production job at opposite ends of the country I return home and lie on the grass to ground myself.
The garden to my left was once inhabited by KW and her family. Both mother and daughter have since moved on, to another realm and another island. My school friend down the road has now lost his eye in an accident. I thank the blue sky above I can see its vibrant blue so clearly.
In Settle the audience were sat so close I could see their reactions in realtime. An audience member leant into her partner as I started Close Up, people always like that one, must be Boo’s magic dust, Hany’s powerful story, or maybe a mix of the two.
Starting work with Jackie Conn on her album has been a treat. I dived in but didn’t hit the bottom yet, she has a lot to say. I can’t wait to share it with you.
The thick syrupy liquid of last night’s Starupramen with Chris Cleverley is still in my system. That dense lager reminds me of Camden in the 00s, the lock tavern with Ben Hudson, Luke, Maia and Gemma.
What happened to me?
Where did I go?
I don’t have time to lie here and consider these things, I’m playing tonight and I need to eat.
See you out there: GIGS
